Curriculum Support

These are the ways PTSA helps support ALL children in the classrooms.

Art Smart

Art Smart is a PTSA sponsored program that brings art enrichment directly to the classroom.  On a monthy basis PTSA volunteers teach each class about the use of art elements and techniques which is supplemented with information about the great art masters and art history.  There are several schoolwide themes throughout the year and each year culminates with the Spring Art Walk.  One or more volunteers per class are needed each year.  Curriculum and training support are provided.  Please contact Joy Silver or Christine Cherkis for more information.

Assemblies and Residencies

PTSA makes a signficant contribution to bring authors, artists, and special programs that are presented throughout the year to kids in all the grades.

Chess

All students in grades 1 and 2 learn the game of chess through an instructional program and get to keep a chess set to play at home.

Math Games in the Classroom

Games can range from math facts to problem solving, and all are fun and easy to learn.  Training for volunteers will be provided.  Set up a time that's convenient for you and the teacher.

Nature Vision

An environmentalist works with all of classrooms.  This is usually mingled with work parties to maintain the Wetlands in the spring time.

Parent Mentoring

Our Parent Mentor program pairs students with parents in a one-on-one setting.  Parents can request a mentor for their child or teachers can request a mentor for a student.  The mentorship can provide support for challenged learners or enrichment and can be in any subject matter.  The session lengths and regularity depend on the students' needs and the availability of volunteers.

All mentorships are confidential.  Parent volunteers have said that it is one of the most meaningful and rewarding ways to help our students.  Contact your child's teacher, or our PTSA Mentor Co-Chairs, Andy Gates.

Reflections Art Contest

The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by the chosen theme, while also raising community awareness of the importance of the arts in education.  Contest is in the fall.

Science Fair and Celebration

Planetarium and science exploration with PacSci, student science experiment exhibits, hands-on activities, RHS Robotics Club demonstrations, EHS science honors students share their projects, drawings and door prizes.  In the spring.

Various Stipends

PTSA provides stipends for classroom supplies, to support Associated Student Body (ASB), for safety patrol, and scholarships for families in need of financial assistance.  Contact the school counselor to request financial assistance.
