Each year, the school staff and the PTSA work together to thank all of the volunteers in our Dickinson/Explorer community who help make our school the best that it can be. Our school community is greatly enriched by thousands of hours of volunteer time given during the school year.  We collect nominations from the whole community, an award committee processes them and assigns the awards.

Nominate an Outstanding Volunteer

The 2017-2018 Volunteer Celebration will take place on the last day of school, Thursday, June 21, as part of an all-school assembly. Coffee, tea, and awards will follow.

Award Categories

Dickinson Heroes

Presented to volunteers for their outstanding effort in support of our children. Eligible candidates have volunteered in any position (not limited to PTSA) in the current school year. (Typically this is their first time receiving recognition.)

Dragon Award

Dragon pins are presented to volunteers for their outstanding work during the school year and their support of PTSA programs, events, and efforts. These are volunteers who have been identified for their assistance with Art Smart, Theater, after school programs, events, and other PTSA programs.  They might not have taken on leadership roles but have been willing to step in to assist when needed this year. Eligible candidates may or may not have been recognized in previous years.

Star Award

Star Awards are presented each year to individuals who have devoted a great deal of time and energy in a variety of areas to the Dickinson/Explorer community and have received a Dragon Pin.

Outstanding Volunteer Award

These volunteers are past recipients of the star award and stand out in their continued dedication and commitment to the Dickinson/Explorer Community. Eligible candidates have contributed to the school community via PTSA activities for multiple years. They may or may not have served in leadership roles, but their contribution is significant and consistent, and supported by multiple parties aside from the nominator.

Golden Acorn Award

This is the highest honor awarded by the PTSA. This Washington State PTA sponsored award recognizes outstanding service in the school community over a period of years.  Recipients receive a certificate, a Washington State Golden Acorn pin, and a contribution is made in their name to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Program. Eligible candidates should be current PTSA members who have continued to go above and beyond in serving the school community for a number of years. Recipients typically have held leadership roles such as serving on the PTSA board or chairing committees, and display unique dedication to the school community.
