Get Ready for the KITE STEM Challenge!
April 23rd-May 13th LWSD students have the wonderful opportunity to participate in the KITE STEM Challenge. The KITE STEM Challenge is a Google-sponsored competition between schools to see who has the most STEM knowledge.  There are individual prizes (such as Pacific Science Center Memberships) as well as the chance to earn money for our school! Google has generously donated $40,000 to give away to winning LWSD schools in this challenge. That is some serious money to invest in STEM! Parent-Teacher conferences are this week! School will release at noon on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and there is no school Friday. During conference week, we also are hosting the Scholastic Book Fair! Destination Imagination (DI) is a non-profit organization and each year they develop seven, new academic challenges in the fields of STEM, the arts, social entrepreneurship, and early learning (Rising Stars). Students (K-5) work in teams to research, design, and build a solution to their preferred challenge. Teams are lead by parent volunteers and groups meet after school, on or off campus. Dickinson and Explorer Big Theater 2017-2018 Presents The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse January 19-20, 2018   We are pleased to announce that registration for Big Theater is now open.  All 4th and 5th grade students are eligible to participate in the Big Theater program.  This year we will present an adaptation of the classic tale,  The Town Mouse and Country Mouse. Mrs. Williams and Parent Volunteers are happy to coach 4 th graders for the Math Is Cool competition that takes place Friday, March 16th, 2018 at Mt. Rainier High School. This is a great opportunity to grow your child's interest and skills in math. This program is strictly geared towards preparing for the competition and commitment is required.
